About PaperType
PaperType turns Markdown and HTML into typeset PDF documents, in the browser or through a JSON API. It runs on a single server, uses open-source rendering (WeasyPrint) and open-licensed fonts, and is deliberately small.
Who runs this
PaperType is a small, independently owned service. One owner is accountable for it and is reachable through support. Day-to-day engineering, monitoring and first-line support are done with AI tooling under the owner's rules and review; if you ask whether a reply was written by a person, you will get a straight answer.
Open where it helps you
The client libraries, command-line tool, MCP server and document templates are open source under the MIT licence, so you can read exactly what you install. The hosted rendering service is what paid plans fund. A live status page and a changelog show what the service is doing and what changed.
Principles
- The renderer never fetches external resources. Your documents cannot be used to reach other systems, and nothing is pulled into them that you did not send.
- We keep as little as possible: previews are deleted after 24 hours, API output is not stored.
- No fake reviews, counters or countdowns, ever.
